Job to be Done: Confess

A main lesson from “The Innovator’s Solution,” Newspaper Next, and the “Saving Journalism” class I’m taking with Philip Meyer is about finding “jobs to be done” — ways to fill needs for customers.

But these jobs or needs aren’t always obvious.

Apparently, we have a need to confess. And we want to read others’ secrets.

An interview at How to Change the World is about PostSecret, which publishes secrets that people send in on postcards. It says that since starting the project in November 2004, Frank Warren has received 175,000 anoynymous postcards. Warren’s latest book based on the project is “A Lifetime of Secrets.”

From the interview: “We all carry a secret that would break your heart if you just knew what it was. And if we could remember that there might be more understanding and peace in the world.”

NOTE: I know I should link more, but my computer has a poltergeist this morning. It’s opening and closing windows all on its own.
